Hot, tired and cranky...but I have happy kids!

Being pregnant during the summer I guess you could say that hot, tired and cranky are common place for me...however I feel like I earned it today =o)

The beginning of the day was fun. The kids and I met up with Hyrum's Mom and Sister and her kids and we all attacked the Central Bank customer appreciation day. My kids would have been thrilled with that much - free hot dogs and chips and a new bouncy ball all for them. But from there we went on to go to the Spanish Fork pool - Grandma wanted to treat all of the kids to a day of fun in the sun before they head off to school next week. We all had a blast (even if I did have to be seen in public in swim gear while overweight, 6 months pregnant and sporting a wicked farmer's tan =0).

Tonight was a little more frustrating. This weekend is "Webelos Woods"- the yearly overnight campout for the group of scouts that Hyrum and I oversee. The plan had been that we would go up as a family, and the kids were all very excited to go on one more campout before school. Well, about a week ago I was informed that we weren't able to take the kids to the Boy Scout Camp. We weren't really comfortable asking someone to watch all 3 kids overnight (we like our friends and want to keep them), so it was decided that Hyrum would go and I would stay home with the kids. To make up for the camping trip, I promised them all we would sleep out in the backyard.

We helped Dad get ready and on his way, and then headed out to Two Jacks Pizza for dinner. Just as we had ordered our pizza and drinks to eat at the restaurant, we got a call from Hyrum. He had locked himself out and had left his tour permit in the house. So we hurried back into the van to rescue Dad. By the time we got back our pizza was waiting for us, and pretty much cold, but it tasted good anyway.

We then headed home to start our backyard campout. The boys had wanted to sleep in the trailer, which was fine with me - Zero set up on my part. Well, Hannah would have none of it. She was going to sleep in the tent even if she had to put it up herself. After about an hour of fighting her on it, I finally gave in. So, I got a campfire going for the boys to roast marshmallows (yes, I am a studette - it was a pretty good fire, and don't tell my young women's leaders, but I am pretty sure it was the first one I've ever started on my own - no lighter fluid, either!) Then I set about putting up our 3 room tent - Hyrum had taken the little dome tent with him. The plan was that the boys would sleep in the trailer and I would appease my cute little pain in the rear daughter by sleeping in the tent with her. So this is what happened next, in the following order

1. I finished setting up the tent
2. The boys decided that they wanted to sleep in the tent too.
3. I started moving all of our gear in
4. The thunder and lightning arrived
5. 3 out of 3 kids decided that a campout in front of the big screen in the family room was a much better idea.

Sigh.

At least I know I am capable of a good campfire. I'm also good at putting it out after using it for a whole 3 or 4 marshmallows.

Most importantly, my kids are still convinced that they are about the luckiest kids ever after having a day like today. I'll take that.

Murphy and his stupid law!!! Sounds like an adventure to say the least. Someday your kids will look back and think "wow, I can't believe we made our mom do all that" and you'll laugh and they'll hug you. :-)

Sounds like a pretty good day at your place. Saturdays are great for us. With my new set schedule I will always have weekends off. Next saturday is out though, it is when I get to go to Toby Keith's concert and I am way thrilled. Randle and I are going with my good friend and his wife from Evanston.
